History

Córdoba is the colonial capital of Argentina, an exquisite city of nearly a million in population. The city has more impressive Spanish colonial architecture than any other in Argentina. The people possess a curiosity and passion for life, most notably when it comes to football (soccer). It is a national obsession that one could not miss. Yet do not forget the other reasons why Argentina is famous like: Evita, the Tango, gauchos and of course, estancias.

Córdoba is located on the edge of the Sierra Chica mountain range, and is a perfect base for excursions into the natural beauty of the Andes or even the nearby Papas just 100 km south.

Before the surge of Buenos Aires, Córdoba was a place of scholars and priests as well as churches and universities. It was also the country's center for arts and crafts. Now that much of this is overshadowed by the success of Buenos Aires, you will still find that Córdoba retains its grace and spirit.

Because a majority of the Argentine population dwells in large cities, millions of acres of open wildlife, ranches (estancias), and farms consume much of the country. Farming and grains of many types are Argentina's principal export crop, which also provides food for millions of birds. More importantly, the most numerous are the eared doves, which breed 3 to 4 times a year and are considered "pests" by local farmers. This is bad for farmers but great for hunters.
